Coronavirus (Covid-19) Disinfectant

Coronavirus (Covid-19) Disinfectant

As of the 23rd March 2017 the UK Government announced a stay-at-home warning due to the Coronavirus Pandemic sweeping the world. A scary time for all. Therefore, it must go without saying that washing your hands is doubly important when handling food. But what about a Covid-19 Disinfectant for cleansing surfaces, door handles and other regularly touched hard surfaces?

After research it appears there is only one homemade solution that will suffice as a Covid-19 Disinfectant. The reason I share this is because there are a lot of homemade solutions online that will simply not work, such as a regular homemade anti-bacterial spray. This the only homemade solution that is recommended by the CDC (Centre for Disease Control & Prevention)

Please note you CANNOT DRINK THIS or INJECT THIS to kill Covid-19, it will cause serious harm!

The solution is very simple but there are some things that you need to consider first

  • You will need a 15ml (1 tbsp) measure that is not to be used for any food products or eating
(I have a plastic one that came with a powdered product)
  • You will need a Cloth that is only used for this spray
  • You will need an empty Spray Bottle that holds roughly 1 litre of liquid & has been really well cleaned out from a previous product
  • You will need to be able to Label the spray and Keep Out of Children’s Reach
  • A Pair of Gloves such as Marigolds
  • This is not to be used in areas with Animals

To make the Covid-19 Disinfectant

  1. Put on your Gloves
  2. To make the solution you need to measure 15ml of Household Bleach and pour into the Clean Spray Bottle
  3. Measure 1 litre of warm water into a jug
  4. Pour the Water into the Spray Bottle leaving 2-3 inches at the top
  5. Put the lid on tightly
  6. Over a sink turn upside down & then back the correct way ensure the Water & Bleach are combined
  7. Label the bottle and store out of reach with 15 ml measure, Cloth & Gloves
  8. At the end of the day pour the leftover contents down the toilet
  9. At the start of the day make a new solution

How to use Covid-19 Disinfectant

  1. Put on your gloves
  2. Check there is nobody close to you and that the nozzle is facing away
  3. Spray onto your allocated cloth and wipe the surface you wish to disinfect
  4. Leave for a minimum of 20 seconds
  5. Surfaces that will come into any contact with Food or with Children need to be rinsed after with warm soapy water (using a different cloth)
  6. Other surfaces such as door handles can be dried with kitchen roll

Stay Safe!
